We’ve had a lifetime of fitting winter tyres and winter wheel conversions.
With car manufacturers employing fashion designers to design new cars, they are fitting Ferrari/Porsche sized tyres on standard every day cars. These are heavy on fuel, cost more, wear out quicker and are hopeless in winter.
We often fit smaller steel or alloy wheels and when they fitted with smaller winter tyres they can transform winter motoring and it saves your summer tyres for the warmer weather and your alloy wheels out are kept out of the salt!. When we do a conversion we try to keep the rolling circumference as close as possible to the original to maintain gearing, Speedo and keep the insurance company happy. When driving abroad in some countries it’s mandatory to be able to fit and carry chains and often chains won’t fit and clear the bodywork on the larger upgraded tyres and wheels.
